Chess Strategy Trainer (Android) — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

The short version: this app never asks for your name, email, or any personal information, and contains no advertising, analytics, or trackers. To let your current game follow you between your own Android devices, it saves the state of that game — the moves played and a couple of settings — to Google's Firestore database, tied to an anonymous identifier created automatically for this install. That identifier isn't linked to your name, email, Google account, or anything else that identifies you. The rest of this page explains exactly what's stored and why, so you don't have to take that on faith.

Accounts and personal information

Chess Strategy Trainer has no sign-in screen, no profile, and no user accounts of its own. It doesn't ask for your name, email address, location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone, and it has no way to identify you as a person.

What it does have, behind the scenes, is Firebase Anonymous Authentication: the first time the app runs, it's issued a random, anonymous ID for that installation — not tied to your Google account, email, or any other identity. This happens automatically, with no sign-in prompt. That anonymous ID exists purely so the app can save and later retrieve your own game data, described below.

What's stored, and where

The app keeps a copy of your current game — the moves played, whether you're in Analysis or a game against the AI, which color you're playing, and the difficulty setting — so that if you close the app or switch to a different Android device, your game is where you left it. This data:

Because the anonymous ID is tied to the app install rather than to you personally, uninstalling the app (or clearing its data) ends that identity — a later reinstall gets a new one and won't see the old game. The old record isn't automatically deleted from Firestore when that happens; if you'd like it removed, contact us at the address below and we'll delete it by hand.

If the same saved game is updated from two devices before they've had a chance to sync, the app keeps whichever version was saved most recently and discards the older one — there's no merging of two different games into one.

Network use

The app makes two kinds of outbound network requests:

Third parties

Two third-party services are involved, both described above: Google Firebase (Anonymous Authentication and Firestore, for cross-device game sync) and Lichess (its public cloud-evaluation API, for move suggestions). Neither receives your name, email, or any other personal identifier from this app. The app contains no advertising network, no analytics software development kit, and no tracking software of any kind.

Children's privacy

Because the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children either. The app's content — chess instruction and gameplay — is appropriate for a general audience.

Data deletion

Since there's no account to delete, uninstalling the app stops all data collection going forward. If you'd like your synced game data removed from Firestore specifically (including after uninstalling), email us at the address below with an approximate date you last used the app and we'll locate and delete the record.

Changes to this policy

If this app's data practices ever change further, this page will be updated first, with a new "Last updated" date above, before that change ships in the app.
